Become a Volunteer

One way to help support the mission of STOP Violence is to volunteer.  We know time is a precious commodity, and offer several structured possibilities.  These opportunities allow you to use your valuable skills and make a difference.

Volunteer opportunities are available in these areas:

Program for Inmates Site Coordinators and Site Volunteers –  We are in constant need of dedicated individuals willing to travel to various Kansas correctional facilities to offer support to inmates involved in our highly successful program.  Each group meets weekly. While the inmates run the meetings, the support and input of outside volunteers is invaluable. Volunteer site coordinators work with our Program Director and members of the Kansas Department of Corrections to handle logistics of weekly meetings, special events, speakers, and fundraisers within the group.

Classroom activity facilitator for Get Connected –  Our bullying prevention programs serve schools in the Kansas City metropolitan area.  Part of our comprehensive Get Connected program calls for ongoing classroom activities.  For schools without the resources to facilitate these activities, we rely on staff and volunteers to teach strategies to prevent bullying and encourage empathy, respect and kindness.  Activity facilitators are trained by STOP Violence staff.

Kindest Kansas Citian Banquet – We are always looking for energetic volunteers to help us plan and execute our annual fundraiser, the Kindest Kansas Citian Banquet.  This event honors adults throughout the metropolitan area whose kindness has made an impact on a child.  Students nominate their Kindest Kansas Citian via our Kindest Kansas Citian Essay Contest.  Volunteers are needed for the many committees involved with the Banquet, including Fundraising, Silent Auction, Decorations, Essay Contest, Venue Accommodations, Youth Activities Room, Public Relations, Program, and Printing.

Office Help – We are constantly in need of help around the office with tasks requiring basic computer knowledge.  Some basic needs include data entry, database updating, and working with inventory.

Other opportunities vary. If you are looking for a worthwhile investment of your valuable time, please e-mail Shirley Troupe  or call her at 816.777.0356 x232.
